Abolore Sodrudeen Ayodeji, an engineer and education advocate, has formally declared his intention to contest the House of Representatives seat for Abeokuta South Federal Constituency, unveiling a policy agenda centred on zero-interest financing for small businesses, youth empowerment, and increased education funding.
Ayodeji made the declaration on Friday at Ward 11, Lakijena Shrine, describing himself as a grassroots candidate who understands the economic pressures facing residents.
“I wasn’t born with a silver spoon. I know where the problems lie,” he said.
On economic revival through SME support, the aspirant said, would be his priority, noting that many residents struggle to meet their basic needs.
He proposed a revolving, zero-interest loan scheme for small and medium-scale enterprises, explaining that beneficiaries could receive up to ₦1 million and repay ₦50,000 monthly over 20 months.
“If they are consistent over three cycles, we will return 50 per cent—₦500,000—to help stabilise their businesses,” he said, adding that the repayment structure would allow the programme to reach more people.
Speaking on youth empowerment and education Ayodeji described youth empowerment as “critical to national growth,” citing Nigeria’s youthful population and the economic responsibilities borne by young people.
He pledged to champion improved funding for education in the National Assembly, arguing that investment in both formal and informal learning is key to national development.
“According to UNESCO, 26 per cent of national budgets should go to education. Nigeria is far below that. I will push for at least 10 per cent as a starting point,” he said, with a commitment to gradual increases.
He also outlined plans to support vocational skills in the informal sector, including trades such as bricklaying and tailoring, noting that not all citizens would pursue formal education.
The declaration adds momentum to the 2027 National Assembly contest in Ogun State, with Ayodeji positioning his campaign around economic inclusion, skills development and legislative advocacy for education.
