Olugbenga Akande, the Chief Executive Officer of Otun Reigns International, has been invited to serve as Special Envoy for Youth Diplomacy and Leadership at the 6th Model ECOWAS Summit. The summit is scheduled to take place from May 26 to 30, 2026, in Accra, Ghana.
The invitation was made in recognition of Akande’s contributions to youth leadership and regional dialogue. The summit secretariat, in a letter signed by the executive director, David Osabutey, extolled Akande’s leadership excellence and commitment to the development of Africa.
Akande’s appointment as Special Envoy is expected to inspire delegates and improve the conversation on issues bothering the development of the West Africa sub-region. He is expected to deliver goodwill remarks aligned with the summit’s theme, engage directly with delegates on leadership and diplomacy, and contribute to high-level discussions.
The summit’s theme is “Peace, Stability, and Social Cohesion: Unleashing the Power of Youth to Lead.” The event is a premier regional platform that brings together young leaders across West Africa and beyond to simulate decision-making processes of the Economic Community of West African States.
Akande has previously been involved with the summit, serving as a former delegate, former Vice President of the Secretariat, and Chairperson of the 5th edition. His traditional title, Bobajiró Agbénusọ-Ònkòwé of Ado-Odo Kingdom, Awóriland, reflects a unique blend of leadership, eloquence, and intellectual influence.
The summit is being held with support from Ghana’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Organizers described the event as an opportunity for young leaders to engage in regional diplomacy and contribute to the development of West Africa.
As Special Envoy, Akande’s presence is expected to carry both symbolic and practical significance. He will play a key role in shaping the summit’s discussions and outcomes.
The main session is slated for May 28, 2026, at the University of Ghana Medical Centre – Medical Training and Simulation Centre in Accra. Residential participants are expected to arrive by midday on May 26.
