A female usher, Special Bensington, was tragically killed by unidentified gunmen in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, while on a Bolt ride to an event centre along Odili Road. Her friend, Miss Divine Anyanwu, who was with her in the vehicle, reported the incident to the police.
The police believe the gunmen, operating a tricycle, trailed the victims from a hotel where they boarded the Bolt ride. The assailants opened fire on the vehicle, and Special Bensington sustained fatal gunshot injuries.
The Rivers State Police Command has launched a full-scale investigation into the murder and transferred the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department for discreet forensic investigation. Efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend the perpetrators.
Police spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, condemned the gruesome act and assured the public that the perpetrators will be brought to justice. The command urged members of the public with useful information to come forward and contact dedicated police phone lines or report to the nearest police station.
The incident has sparked concern and outrage, with many calling for increased security measures to protect citizens. The victim’s friend, Miss Divine Anyanwu, is currently safe, and the police are providing updates on the investigation.

The Amalgamated Union of App-based Transporters of Nigeria (AUATON) has appealed to the government to provide protection for its members and urged app companies to implement customer verification processes to prevent security breaches.
