The Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA) in Ogun State has empowered women as part of activities marking the 2026 celebration of International Women’s Day.
The empowerment programme was held on Sunday, March 8, 2026, at the POWA Hall in Eleweran Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State.
POWA is an association that comprises wives of police officers across ranks, including those married to senior officers, junior officers, as well as widows of fallen police personnel.
The programme was organised under the leadership of the Chairperson of POWA in the state, Rev Mrs olubosola lanre Ogunlowo the wife of the Ogun state commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo.
Speaking with journalists during the event, Mrs. Ogunlowo urged women to support one another and avoid discrimination among themselves.
“Women should try to be helpful to themselves. There should be no discrimination among women but love and unity. Women should not serve as tools of rebellion against one another because being rebellious to your fellow woman will not achieve anything meaningful.”
She emphasized the importance of solidarity among women, noting that mutual support would foster development and growth in society.
“Women should always be in a position to support their fellow women in whatever they choose to do. When women support one another, it brings development and growth among them.”
The POWA chairperson also highlighted the vital role women play in the home, particularly in the upbringing of children.
“Women are the backbone of the home, especially when it comes to taking care of children. I want to plead with mothers to be disciplined and vigilant, particularly when raising the girl child so that our children will feel the love and guidance of their mothers and not become a disappointment in the future.”
Mrs. Ogunlowo also expressed appreciation to the Ogun State Ministry of Women Affairs for its consistent support to the association.
“We appreciate the Ministry of Women Affairs for their continuous support and for issuing us a daycare licence a few days ago.”
According to her, the newly licensed daycare facility is located beside the POWA Secretariat at Eleweran and is open to both police families and members of the public.
“The daycare centre located beside the POWA Secretariat at Eleweran is accessible to all women, both police wives and citizens. It is well equipped with professional staff to care for children.”
She further appreciated the officers of the Nigeria Police Force in Ogun State for their support towards the empowerment programme.
“I also appreciate all Ogun State police officers for their support towards the success of this empowerment programme.”
Mrs. Ogunlowo equally thanked residents of Ogun State for their continued support for the state Commissioner of Police.
“I want to thank the good people of Ogun State for their support for my husband, the Commissioner of Police.”
The event featured empowerment activities aimed at improving the welfare and economic strength of women within and outside the police community.
