The Ebonyi State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of three siblings, Favour, Obinna, and Kamso Okeoha, by a new tenant in Nwezenyi village, Igbeagu community, in Izzi Local Government Area of the state.
The suspect, a woman who had recently rented an apartment in the area, allegedly carried out the abduction on Saturday while the parents were away.
Police spokesperson, Joshua Ukandu, confirmed the incident on Tuesday in Abakaliki, stating that an investigation has been launched to locate and rescue the children.
The community is still reeling from the shock of the abduction, with residents expressing disbelief that the suspect had only moved in a few days prior.
According to residents, the suspect rented the apartment on Thursday and moved in on Friday, only to abduct the children the following day. “She stayed just one day before the children were abducted on Saturday. We do not even know her identity,” a resident said.
Another neighbour described the suspect as friendly, noting that she had painted her room and inscribed “One Love” on the wall to create a positive impression. The parents of the abducted children were unavailable for comment as sympathisers gathered in the compound awaiting their return.
This incident adds to growing concerns over child abductions in Ebonyi State. In February 2026, three children were abducted from the same compound at Nkwegu, opposite the Nkwegu Military Cantonment gate in Abakaliki Local Government Area.
The police have assured residents that every available resource is being mobilised to ensure the safe return of the children and the arrest of those responsible. Community members have been urged to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activity or useful information that could aid the investigation.
Governor Francis Nwifuru has directed security agencies to work together to track down the perpetrators and bring them to justice. The people of Ebonyi State are calling for increased security measures to prevent such incidents.
The police have launched a thorough investigation into the case, involving forensic analysis and interviews with witnesses, and are working tirelessly to rescue the victims and bring the perpetrators to justice, with regular updates promised to the public as the situation unfolds.
