The Ogun State Government has announced plans to build 3,000 more affordable houses in 2026 as part of efforts to provide homes for middle-class and low-income residents.
The Commissioner for Housing, Hon. Jagunmolu Omoniyi, made this known on Monday during a press conference in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta. He praised Governor Dapo Abiodun for his leadership, saying it has improved the housing sector in the state.
According to him, the government has already completed 30 duplexes at Ibara GRA Cluster 1 Extension and 100 duplexes at the President Muhammadu Buhari Estate. He added that work is also ongoing on major projects such as the International Conference Centre, Banquet Hall, and the Appeal Court Headquarters.
Jagunmolu said the government plans to deliver over 10,000 affordable houses before the end of the administration, noting that more houses have been built under the current government than in all past administrations combined.
He explained that the Ibara GRA Urban Regeneration Project has improved a previously neglected area, with more than 150 modern houses already completed.
The commissioner also said that middle-class residents affected by the Ibara housing project will be moved to a new estate of 25,000 affordable housing units, starting with 576 units.
He added that the state is also building 2,500 houses for low-income earners, with 579 units in the first phase. The land has been secured, and construction will begin before the end of the month through a partnership involving the Ministry of Housing, the Housing Corporation, and OPEC.
Jagunmolu assured that the first phase of the project will be completed by May or June, after which work will continue on the next phase.
He also revealed plans for the Lagos Road housing project, which will include low-income and serviced housing schemes, describing it as a project that will greatly improve housing in the state.
