Ogun state Governor, Dapo Abiodun has presented 1.7 trillion naira for the 2026 Appropriation Bill to the Ogun State House of Assembly, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to inclusive development, prudent spending and sustainable growth.
Speaking before the Speaker, principal officers and members of the Assembly, governor abiodun said the 2026 budget was built on the strategic priorities captured in the 2026–2028 Medium-Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF), which is anchored on the five pillars of the State’s Shared Prosperity Development Agenda.
The governor noted that the Assembly’s earlier approval of the Medium-Term Fiscal Framework and the Medium-Term Budget Framework (MTBF) provided a solid financial foundation for transparent planning and realistic allocation of resources.
The governor added that the Fiscal Responsibility Law of 2020 modeled after national best practices guided the budget’s formulation, ensuring prudence, debt sustainability and accurate forecasting.
Abiodun further explained that the 2026 budget reflects inputs from extensive citizen engagement, including digital feedback channels, stakeholder working groups and town hall meetings held across the four divisions of the state, adding that Over 5,000 residents directly participated, with contributions from community leaders, the private sector, labour groups, women and youth organisations, civil society and professional bodies.
He said these contributions were incorporated into the 2026 budget in line with global best practices, including OECD principles on open budgeting and Nigeria’s Open Government Partnership commitments.
Outlining the administration’s priorities for the 2026 fiscal year, the governor listed the following focus areas, which includes Completion of ongoing projects under the ISEYA Development Pillars, Projects with strong revenue-generating potential, Projects that promote employment opportunities, Initiatives aligned with Ogun State’s Economic Development Plan and Strategy, Projects consistent with the national Medium-Term Development Plan and Projects that support President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Governor Abiodun however emphasized that these priorities reinforce the commitment to building “a more prosperous, competitive and inclusive Ogun State where public resources are used efficiently and for the collective good.
