Communities across Ogun State have expressed relief and optimism following the government’s announcement of a comprehensive road maintenance programme to be implemented across all 20 Local Government Areas.
Residents say the initiative, unveiled by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Public Works, Engr. Babatunde Adesina, signals a renewed commitment to tackling the long-standing challenge of bad roads that have hampered mobility and economic activities in many parts of the state.
During an inspection of the Leme–Abiola Way–Madojutimi roads in Abeokuta, Adesina assured that the intervention would not be limited to urban centres but would extend to rural communities, with the goal of easing transportation burdens and opening up local economies.
For many residents, the promise of accessible and safer roads could mark a turning point for commerce, especially for small businesses and farmers who rely on good road networks to move goods and services. “If these roads are properly fixed, it will help our businesses grow and make movement easier for everyone,” a trader in Abeokuta remarked.
Governor Dapo Abiodun’s administration has emphasized that the project goes beyond temporary fixes, stressing that durable road networks are key to boosting productivity, reducing travel time, and strengthening connectivity across the state.
With anticipation building, Ogun residents are hopeful that the maintenance exercise will translate into tangible improvements that enhance daily life and spur long-term economic growth across their communities
