Senate President Godswill Akpabio has called on the Department of State Services (DSS) to investigate the origin and circulation of a social media graphic containing a statement he says was falsely attributed to him.
Akpabio made the request through a petition signed by his Chief of Staff, Jackson Udom, and made available to journalists by his Special Assistant.
The petition followed the circulation of a graphic purportedly quoting the Senate President as saying that Northerners would suffer the most if President Bola Tinubu loses an election.
Akpabio’s office dismissed the statement as fabricated, stressing that there was no video, audio recording, speech or credible media report linking him to the alleged comment.
According to the petition, the circulation of the graphic was capable of misleading members of the public and creating unnecessary regional tension.
The Senate President consequently urged the DSS to trace the source of the graphic and identify those behind its creation and distribution.
He also called for appropriate action against those responsible, describing the alleged publication as an attempt to misrepresent his position and stir division among Nigerians.
