Tension erupted at Dr. Oladipupo Adebutu’s polling unit in Iperu, Ward 005, Unit 011, when armed hoodlums stormed the premises on Saturday.
The attackers, numbering about six, reportedly arrived at Wesley Primary School around 12:44 p.m. on two motorcycles, with three men on each bike.
Clad in black hoodies and wielding dane guns, they shot sporadically into the air, sending voters scampering for safety.
The election, which had earlier been relatively peaceful despite widespread reports of vote buying and underage voting allegedly perpetrated by party agents, was thrown into chaos as the hoodlums disrupted proceedings and carted away ballot boxes.
Eyewitnesses also reported similar violent incidents in Isara Remo and other parts of Iperu, where voters were assaulted and dispersed by the thugs.
Information gathered alleged that the PDP’s 2023 governorship candidate, Dr. Oladipupo Adebutu, has been placed under house arrest, fueling political tension in the area.
