Ogun West Youth Leader Urges Youths to Focus on Positive Change, Not Division

Comr. Kehinde Damilola Olorunjubelo, the State Vice-Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (Ogun West), delivered a strong message to the Youth of Ogun State, urging them to cease fueling conflicts among political leaders. This statement came during a segment on the program GBAGEDE APERO on Root 97.1 FM, hosted by Mr. Pamilerin, who sought the youth leader’s opinion on the recent social media feud between the followers/admirers of Prince Gboyega Nasir Isiaka and Senator Olamilekan Adeola Yayi.

Comr. Kehinde Damilola labelled these actions as unnecessary and called for all youths to focus on positively promoting the achievements of their political leaders instead of exacerbating tensions. He praised both leaders for taking the initiative to call their media associates to promote peace and urged the youth to foster friendships in politics rather than severing ties.

The no 1 Youth Leader in Ogun West didn’t hesitate to hold political leaders accountable for the current divisive environment, noting that they often reward eye service and media bullies while disregarding dedicated and hardworking individuals.

This mentality has detrimental effects on society, particularly in challenging security situations, as countless young people might resort to negative paths that promise rewards rather than pursue honorable efforts that go unrecognized.

Comr. Kehinde also echoed the view of the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, who identified hunger and poverty as critical social issues fueling ongoing national security threats. He highlighted that idle hands indeed lead to devilish deeds; with soaring unemployment rates and rising inflation, many youths feel cornered and pushed to make poor choices. Once the spirit of resilience falters, despair takes over.

He commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for supporting Local Government Autonomy, a significant step towards improving citizens’ welfare.
However, he emphasized that this alone is insufficient. There is a pressing need for collaboration with non-partisan organizations like the National Youth Council of Nigeria, which has an extensive reach from National, State, Senatorial, and Local Governmentsto ward levels and comprises a variety of youth groups. Such partnerships would effectively enhance impactful initiatives throughout our communities.

Moreover, there should be motivational packages encouraging youth participation in voluntary services, illuminating the importance of their contributions to community, state, and national development—not just for reality show participants or children of the affluent who flaunt their influence.

Concluding his address, Comr. Kehinde highlighted the accomplishments of his administration in Ogun West Senatorial District, the State, and the Nation as a whole, along with programmes lined up for the future:

– Secured the donation of 58.6 million Naira for reconnecting electricity to 22 communities in Yewa North/Abeokuta North Local Government, thanks to Dangote Cement Plant, Ibese;

– Provided ICT/Digital Proficiency training for 50 youths;

– Implemented Environmental Sanitation initiatives across all five Local Governments in Ogun West, sustained monthly by local branches;

– Organized medical outreach programs in several communities;

– Conducted campaigns and raised awareness about cholera outbreaks and preventive measures across Ogun West;

– To recognize youth contributions to community service, the youth leadership launched the Maiden Edition of the Ogun West Youth Award.

Looking ahead, we are excited to announce the upcoming Maiden Youth Summit in Ogun West, scheduled for August 21, 2025, with the theme:
BREAKING THE CYCLE: THE YOUTH PERSPECTIVE IN ADDRESSING SOCIO-CULTURAL OBSTACLES AND HISTORICAL GRIEVANCES TO ACHIEVE EQUITY FOR OGUN WEST.

Additionally, we will kick-off the Ogun West Youth Empowerment programme with intensive training first of its kind, starting August 4th in Ilaro, Yewa South Local Government, running for four weeks.

Together, we will shape a brighter future for Ogun West, Ogun State, and Nigeria as a whole!
