The Ogun State Government has taken a bold step towards enforcing environmental regulations by shutting down four industries found guilty of environmental infractions. The affected companies are Colourful Africa Recycling Limited, Dinshengyuan Plastic Company Limited, Long Xiang Aluminium Nigeria Limited, all located along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, and Yilbao Plastic Nigeria Limited, situated on the Abeokuta-Sagamu Expressway.
According to Hon. Farouk Akintunde, Special Adviser to the Governor on Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency (OGEPA) and Chairman of the State Taskforce on Environmental Compliance and Enforcement, the companies were shut down due to their failure to comply with environmental regulations. Colourful Africa Recycling Limited was found guilty of operating without the required environmental approval and discharging untreated waste into the environment.

Long Xiang Aluminium Nigeria Limited, which manufactures aluminium products, was culpable of incessant discharge of untreated effluent into the environment, despite an earlier “Stop Work Order” from the government. Yilbao Plastic Nigeria Limited, involved in the collection and recycling of used PET bottles, was equally guilty of unabated pollution and poor wastewater management.
Hon. Akintunde revealed that all entreaties, warnings, and timelines given to the companies to correct the infractions were ignored, leaving the state government with no option but to shut them down in the overriding public interest.
The Ogun State Government has appreciated industries that have demonstrated environmentally friendly practices in their operational processes. However, Hon. Akintunde warned that those who fall short of environmental standards will not be spared, as the state government is determined to enthrone the best environmental standards among industries operating in the state.
The shutdown of the four industries is a clear indication of the Ogun State Government’s commitment to environmental protection and its determination to ensure that industries operating in the state adhere to environmental regulations.
The state government’s efforts to promote environmental sustainability and protect public health are expected to have a positive impact on the state’s ecosystem and the well-being of its citizens.æ
