_Ogun State Government Set to Leverage Technology for Improved Water Supply_
The Ogun State Government has announced plans to utilize technology and the Internet to enhance the production, distribution, and generation of clean water for its residents. This development was made known by the Special Adviser to the Ogun State Governor on SDG and Water Resources, Hon. Damilola Otubanjo, during an assessment tour of water generation facilities in the state capital.
Otubanjo emphasized the state government’s commitment to quality assurance, ensuring that the water corporation produces water sustainably. She highlighted the need for automation and exploration of the Internet to optimize processes and adopt advanced technology.
The Special Adviser identified several challenges, including maintenance issues and the need for quality assurance. She engaged with the team to understand the quality processes and testing conducted during her tour.
To address these challenges, the state government plans to convert customers from flat and post-paid rates to pre-paid rates. This conversion is expected to help the corporation and the state government gain significant value from the water produced.
Otubanjo explained that pre-paid meters would allow customers to pay only for the water they consume, eliminating any sense of loss. The state government also plans to install sensors and meters to measure the quality and quantity of water produced.
The Ogun State Water Corporation currently faces issues with non-revenue water due to customers not paying for water they do not receive. The planned installation of sensors and meters aims to address this issue and provide a more accurate estimate of revenue.
Otubanjo assured residents of immediate improvements in water distribution and pledged that the corporation would focus on advocacy and awareness. She also stated that the corporation’s response to bursts and leakages would be optimal, urging the public to report issues promptly.
The Consultant to the Governor on Water Resources, Mrs. Olufunmilayo Jaji, noted that water production is not limited to Abeokuta alone, highlighting the state’s various water supply schemes. She urged residents to pay their water bills on time and report any burst pipes to prevent contamination of the water supply.
The Chairman of Workers’ Estate, Laderin, Abeokuta, Mr. Olatunji Oladapo, commended the state government for addressing the issue of burst pipes in the estate, ensuring uninterrupted water supply.
