President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Thursday inaugurated the ‘Bola Ahmed Tinubu’ barracks in Asokoro, Abuja, as part of efforts to address the accommodation challenges faced by Nigerian Army personnel. The project, which was conceptualized by Philip Eromosele and commenced on November 26, 2022, boasts state-of-the-art accommodations for various ranks of military personnel ¹.
Speaking at the event, President Tinubu assured troops that his administration would prioritize their welfare and provide necessary resources to ease their job. He emphasized the importance of maintaining the newly inaugurated facilities, urging the officers to ensure adequate maintenance culture. “What we must do is continuous development with right maintenance and commitment to the welfare of our men and women in uniform,” he added.
The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, lamented that over 40% of Nigerian Army personnel are still without accommodation. He noted that the newly inaugurated barracks would provide accommodation for 614 personnel, consisting of 170 officers and 444 soldiers and their families.
The barracks feature various facilities, including 16 Major General Quarters, 17 Brigadier General Quarters, and quarters for other ranks. Additionally, the barracks have three worship centers, sports facilities, a powerhouse, and external infrastructure such as a perimeter fence, gatehouses, and access road networks.
President Tinubu’s administration has demonstrated its commitment to supporting the Nigerian Armed Forces, with the inauguration of the barracks marking a significant milestone in addressing the welfare challenges of military personnel.
The event was attended by dignitaries, including the National Security Adviser, Femi Gbajabiamila, and the Minister of Defence, Badaru Abubakar. The service chiefs and other top military officials were also present.
The inauguration of the ‘Bola Ahmed Tinubu’ barracks is expected to boost the morale of Nigerian Army personnel and enhance their operational efficiency.
