Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, welcomed the first baby of 2025 at Asokoro District Hospital in Abuja on Wednesday. The baby girl, Favour Stephen-Odion, was born to Odion Oyinbo and Chioma Odion at 12:27 a.m. on January 1, weighing 3.6kg ¹.
Represented by the wife of the Vice-President, Nana Shettima, the First Lady presented gifts to Favour and other babies born on New Year’s Day in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The gifts included post-natal care products, nutritional supplies, and cash gifts. Shettima prayed for the children’s protection, good health, and prosperity ¹.
The First Lady also received the first baby boy of the year, Zimchikachim Ejiofor, born to Mr. Ejiofor Nworie and Mrs. Delight Nworie at 7:14 a.m., weighing 3kg. She congratulated the parents of other newborn babies in the hospital’s maternity ward ¹.
In her remarks, the First Lady emphasized the importance of exclusive breastfeeding, immunization, and timely post-natal care for newborn babies. She also presented birth certificates to Favour and Zimchikachim ¹.
The event was part of the First Lady’s efforts to promote child welfare and healthcare in Nigeria. Her Renewed Hope Initiative aims to improve birth registration and childcare in the country ².
The Director-General of the National Population Commission (NPC), Dr. Tellson Ojokun, also attended the event and highlighted the importance of birth registration. He noted that every child born in Nigeria has the right to be recognized and registered ².
The First Lady’s visit to the hospital marked a joyful start to the new year, celebrating the arrival of new life and hope for the future.
