The Ogun State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Hon. Sesan Fagbayi, has emphasized the importance of cultural networking with other states in the country to advance the culture and tourism sector. Fagbayi made this known during the opening ceremony of the 2024 National Festival for Arts and Culture (NAFEST) at the Arts and Craft Village in Abuja.
The commissioner stated that states have the opportunity to cross-fertilize ideas and network with other states to boost their internal generated revenue through cultural arts and crafts. He commended the Prince Dapo Abiodun-led administration for supporting cultural activities in the state and ensuring participation in the ongoing International Arts and Crafts Arts (INAC) expo and NAFEST.
Fagbayi assured that the state would leave no stone unturned in ensuring that the glory and pride in the art of Adire fabric are restored. The commissioner’s commitment to promoting cultural activities in the state is a welcome development, as it is expected to boost the state’s economy.
Permanent Secretary in the state Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Dr. Yusuff Quudus, also spoke at the event, stating that NAFEST had brought about meaningful interaction and building of cultural opportunities between states. Quudus’s comments highlighted the importance of cultural exchange programs in promoting national unity and economic growth.
Minister for Arts, Culture, Tourism, and Creative Economy, Mrs. Hannatu Musa Musawa Esq., represented by the Director-General and Chief Executive Officer, National Film and Censors Board, Dr. Shuaibu Hussein, also spoke at the event. Musawa stated that the transformative power of arts and culture in promoting national unity, social cohesion, and economic growth cannot be overstated.
The minister added that the Federal Government is committed to ensuring an enabling environment that supports the growth and development of the creative sector. Musawa urged participants to celebrate the diversity, creativity, and resilience towards promoting arts and culture for economic diversification.
Director-General, Nigerian Council For Arts and Culture (NCAC), Mr. Obi Asika, also spoke at the event, stating that culture and people are the strongest assets that Nigeria has. Asika added that it is imperative to empower the people and connect the culture.
The 2024 NAFEST, tagged “Connected Culture,” is a platform for states to showcase their cultural heritage and promote cultural exchange programs. The event is expected to boost the culture and tourism sector in the country.
