The Owu Kingdom in Abeokuta, Ogun State, has announced the passing of Alhaja Alirat Ayinke Matemilola, mother of the Olowu of Owu Kingdom, Oba (Professor) Saka Adelola Matemilola. She died on Sunday at 81, after a brief illness.
Alhaja Matemilola was born in 1943 at Abiola Village, Abeokuta, to Chief Kasali Bolaji Abiola and Mrs. Raliat Bolaji. Her father served as the third Baale of Abiola Village, a settlement founded by his father, Chief Abiola.
Throughout her life, Alhaja Matemilola was renowned for her kindness, compassion, and strength. She was a successful trader, devoted mother, and loving wife, touching many lives with her warmth and generosity.
The Orunto of Owu Kingdom, Chief Dr. Abiodun Oladimeji Lasile, extended condolences to Oba Matemilola, describing Alhaja Matemilola as a woman of grace and strength.
Oba Matemilola’s mother is survived by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, siblings, in-laws, and extended family members.
The Owu Kingdom expressed heartfelt sympathy to Oba Matemilola and the entire Bolaji and Matemilola families. “May Allah grant Alhaja Matemilola’s soul eternal peace and admit her into Aljannah Firdaus,” the statement concluded.
