The Okarufe Cultural Foundation recently hosted a grand royal reception in honor of the Ooni of Ife, Imperial Majesty Oonirisa Kabiyesi Babatunde Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi, CFR Ojaja 11 in Oka Akoko Kingdom, Ondo State. This momentous occasion celebrated the rich cultural heritage of the Yoruba people, marking a significant milestone in the enduring ties between Ile Ife and Oka Akoko, dating back to 1642.
Olubaka of Oka Land, Oba Yusuf Adebori Adeleye, warmly welcomed Oba Ogunwusi, praising his exemplary leadership. Oba Adeleye described Oba Ogunwusi as the father of all ancient Yoruba towns, acknowledging his efforts in promoting unity and cultural preservation.
Prominent dignitaries, including Senator Ajayi Boroffice and Chief Akogun Omole, joined in honoring Oba Ogunwusi’s leadership. The royal reception vibrantly celebrated Yoruba culture and tradition, showcasing the deep-rooted ties between the two kingdoms.
Oba Ogunwusi expressed heartfelt gratitude to the people of Oka land for the warm reception. As the 51st Ooni of Ife, Oba Ogunwusi’s reign has focused on promoting unity and cultural heritage among the Yoruba people.
His efforts have enhanced Ile-Ife’s attractiveness as a tourist destination, showcasing its rich history. Oba Ogunwusi is a direct descendant of Ooni Agbedegbede and the legendary founder of the Oyo Empire and Benin Empire, Oranmiyan [1).
The historic visit reinforced the historical bonds between Oka Akoko and Ile Ife, solidifying their connection and promoting unity. This milestone event will be remembered for generations.
