Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals has filed a ₦100 billion lawsuit against the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and six other firms.
The refinery seeks to invalidate import licenses granted to NNPCL, Matrix Petroleum Services Limited, AA Rano Limited, A.Y.M Shafa Limited, T. Time Petroleum Limited, and 2015 Petroleum Limited for refined petroleum products.
Dangote Refinery claims the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) issued licenses despite its local production capacity meeting Nigeria’s consumption levels.
The refinery demands an injunction preventing NMDPRA from renewing or issuing further import licenses and seeks ₦100 billion in damages.
According to Dangote Group’s chief branding and communication officer, Anthony Chiejina, the issue began in June and was filed on September 6, 2024.
Parties are currently in discussion following President Bola Tinubu’s directive on crude oil and refined product sales.
No court processes have been served, and the case is adjourned until January 20, 2025.
