The United States has reinforced its defence cooperation with Nigeria with the delivery of military equipment to the Nigerian Air Force as both countries deepen efforts to tackle terrorism in the region.
A U.S. Air Force C-17 Globemaster III transported the equipment to Lagos and Kainji under an ongoing Foreign Military Sales agreement between the United States and Nigeria.
The delivery was announced on Thursday by the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) in a post on X.
AFRICOM described the development as “Partnership in action,” noting that the military support would strengthen Nigerian-led operations against terrorism.
The command said the equipment was supplied as part of an existing defence agreement designed to advance security cooperation between Washington and Abuja.
According to AFRICOM, the support will contribute to Nigeria’s efforts to counter terrorist threats in the region while enhancing the operational capabilities of its armed forces.
The U.S. military command also emphasised that its support to Nigeria’s Armed Forces was provided at the invitation of the Nigerian government and based on respect for the country’s sovereignty.
However, AFRICOM did not disclose the nature, quantity or financial value of the military equipment delivered.
The latest delivery comes amid continued security challenges in Nigeria and ongoing cooperation between Abuja and Washington on counterterrorism and defence matters.
