Two persons, including a former aide to Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, have reportedly died after a trailer crashed along the Hotoro Eastern Bypass in Kano State.
The victims were identified as Sani Muhammad Hotoro, popularly known as Dan Sani, and one of his workers.
The crash occurred on Thursday near Gade-Gade Filling Station, with sources saying the two victims were trapped beneath the trailer and died at the scene.
A passer-by, who identified himself as a commercial tricycle rider, said he arrived at the scene shortly after the incident and saw the victims beneath the trailer.
“I went to look, I saw two people under the tyres, parts of their bodies were already out, I couldn’t tell which part,” he said.
Following the accident, tension reportedly rose in the area as some youths allegedly armed themselves and moved towards the trailer, reportedly threatening to set it ablaze.
Police officers were subsequently deployed to the scene and took control of the situation, preventing further escalation and restoring calm in the area.
The exact circumstances that led to the crash remained unclear as of the time of filing this report.
Dan Sani was a former Senior Special Assistant to Governor Yusuf on Cooperative Groups and was described as a prominent figure within the Kano State Government.
However, the deaths had yet to be officially confirmed by the victims’ families, the Kano State Police Command or the state government as of press time.
