The Northern Senators Forum has urged the Federal Government to intensify efforts to rescue hundreds of worshippers abducted by terrorists in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State.
The call followed an attack on Friday in which gunmen invaded Kpenya Mosque shortly after Jumat prayers and abducted several worshippers. The attackers also reportedly targeted Gidan Zana and Kpenya communities.
Chairman of the Northern Senators Forum, Senator Abdulaziz Musa Yar’Adua, described the attacks as barbaric and a serious security breach requiring immediate action by the authorities.
Yar’Adua called on the Nigerian Armed Forces, Police and Department of State Services (DSS) to intensify coordinated rescue operations and ensure the safe return of all those abducted.
The Forum also appealed to the Federal Government to provide urgent relief to affected residents and strengthen security measures in Borgu and other vulnerable border communities.
It warned that the continued attacks on communities in border areas could worsen insecurity and expose more residents to abductions and other forms of criminality.
The Northern Senators Forum expressed solidarity with the affected families and communities, while urging security agencies to sustain operations until the abducted worshippers are safely rescued.
