Three people abducted by suspected kidnappers in Enugu State have been rescued after police operatives launched a pursuit following a distress call.
The incident occurred along the Port Harcourt Expressway in Enugu, where armed hoodlums reportedly carjacked a Lexus RX 350 and abducted its occupants.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the Enugu State Command, Daniel Ndukwe, disclosed this in a statement, saying operatives of the Anti-Cultism Sub-Unit of the Violent Crime Response Unit responded swiftly to credible intelligence received while on patrol.
According to him, the police, supported by members of the Neighbourhood Watch and local residents, chased the suspects until they abandoned the vehicle and fled into a nearby forest.
Ndukwe said the three victims were rescued unharmed and taken to safety.
He added that the suspects also abandoned firearms and other items while escaping into the bush.
Items recovered by the operatives included a locally fabricated Beretta-like pistol loaded with five rounds of 9mm live ammunition, a locally made cut-to-size firearm, one live cartridge, a mask and other suspected incriminating materials.
The police command said efforts were ongoing to track down the fleeing suspects and bring them to justice.
