President Bola Tinubu has selected the most senior Permanent Secretary in the Federal Civil Service, Abel Olumuyiwa Enitan, to take over as Head of the Civil Service of the Federation from August 27, 2026.
Enitan, currently the Permanent Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Education, will succeed Didi Esther Walson-Jack, who is scheduled to retire after attaining the statutory retirement age of 60.
The appointment was announced in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
An indigene of Osun State, Enitan has spent seven years and seven months as a Permanent Secretary, serving in the Ministry of Police Affairs, Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and the Office of the Vice President before his current assignment in the Education Ministry.
The Presidency said his experience across several government institutions had equipped him with broad knowledge of the operations of the Federal Civil Service and positioned him to take on the new responsibility.
Tinubu expressed appreciation to the outgoing Head of Service for her contributions to the civil service, particularly reforms and innovations implemented during her tenure.
The President also charged Enitan to consolidate ongoing reforms, strengthen professionalism and improve efficiency across the Federal Civil Service.
Tinubu urged the incoming Head of Service to promote a merit-driven, accountable and innovative civil service that would respond effectively to the needs of Nigerians and support the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Born on December 12, 1966, Enitan attended Ajibode Grammar School, Ibadan, and the College of Arts and Science, Ile-Ife.
He obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance and Banking from the University of Lagos in 1988 and later earned a Master of Science degree in Public Policy Analysis from Nasarawa State University, Lafia, in 2015.
Enitan is expected to formally assume office as Head of the Civil Service of the Federation on August 27, 2026.
