The Federal Government has assured military veterans that their concerns over pensions, remuneration and welfare are receiving attention, following a fresh engagement with their representatives in Abuja.
The meeting, held between veterans’ representatives and officials of the Ministry of Defence, focused on addressing outstanding issues affecting the welfare and entitlements of retired military personnel.
The Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Richard Pheelangwah, said the government was committed to finding a fair and sustainable resolution to the concerns raised by the veterans.
Pheelangwah said relevant authorities were working on the issues as part of broader efforts to improve the welfare of military veterans.
He appealed to the veterans to remain calm and continue to engage the government through constructive dialogue while efforts to resolve their grievances continue.
The Permanent Secretary also assured the veterans that the ministry would sustain consultations with their representatives and provide updates on progress made.
The engagement provided an opportunity for both sides to discuss issues surrounding veterans’ welfare and entitlements while exploring ways to resolve outstanding concerns through established government processes.
The Defence Ministry reiterated its commitment to maintaining dialogue with military veterans and addressing their grievances through appropriate institutional channels.
