Blessing Agbebaku, Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, has resigned from his position amid reported moves by some lawmakers to remove him from office.
Agbebaku stepped down on Monday, with his resignation confirmed by his media aide, Ivy Adodo-Ebojele, in a Facebook post.
The aide announced the development in a brief statement, saying further details on the circumstances surrounding the Speaker’s resignation would be made available later.
The resignation comes as the Edo State House of Assembly faces renewed leadership uncertainty, following reported efforts by some lawmakers to initiate impeachment proceedings against Agbebaku.
His departure is expected to trigger a fresh process for the selection of a new Speaker to lead the Assembly.
The development has further heightened political tensions within the Edo legislature, as lawmakers are expected to determine the next leadership of the House.
