The Osun State Police Command has warned individuals and groups planning to disrupt the August 15 governorship election to stay away from polling areas, assuring residents of adequate security throughout the exercise.
The warning followed a state-wide security patrol conducted by the command across major communities as part of preparations for the election.
The Commissioner of Police in charge of the Osun election, CP Samuel Etaifo, led officers on the exercise through Osogbo, Iragbiji, Ikirun, Ede and other parts of the state.
Etaifo said the patrol was designed to reassure residents of the readiness of security personnel to protect lives and property, maintain law and order and provide a safe environment for voters to exercise their franchise.
He said about 15,000 police personnel drawn from tactical formations and specialised units would be deployed across the state before, during and after the election.
The commissioner urged residents, political parties, candidates and their supporters to conduct themselves peacefully, warning that the command would not tolerate acts capable of undermining the electoral process.
He also called on voters to remain law-abiding and cooperate with security personnel to ensure a peaceful and credible governorship election.
