The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) has sealed six iron and steel manufacturing companies in Ikorodu over alleged violations of environmental regulations.
The enforcement exercise, carried out at the Odogunyan Industrial Layout by the agency’s Enforcement Team, followed a directive from the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Mr Tokunbo Wahab.
According to LASEPA, the affected companies are Germini Steel Nigeria Limited, Top Steel Nigeria Limited, Pulkit Alloy Nigeria Limited, Landcraft Steel Nigeria Limited, Sunflag Steel Nigeria Limited and African Steel Nigeria Limited.
The agency said inspections uncovered multiple environmental infractions, including the emission of brown dust, black dust, mill scale, shredded dust, dead dust and other non-metallic particulate matter considered harmful to air quality, public health and the environment.
Speaking during the operation, the General Manager of LASEPA, Dr Babatunde Ajayi, said the enforcement underscores the state government’s commitment to ensuring industries comply with environmental laws.
He urged industrial operators to adopt sustainable production processes and install effective pollution control systems to minimise harmful emissions.
Dr Ajayi also warned that the Lagos State Government would continue to take decisive action against companies that violate environmental standards, stressing that compliance is essential to achieving sustainable industrial development while safeguarding the health and well-being of residents.
