One person died while 10 others sustained varying degrees of injuries in a lone accident involving a Mazda bus at Saapade bridge on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway on Saturday.
Mrs Florence Okpe, the Spokesperson, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ogun, confirmed the incident in a statement issued in Abeokuta.
According to the statement, the accident occurred at 2: 58p.m and it involved a white Mazda Bus with registration number GGE 858 XY.
Okpe stated that the accident was caused by excessive speed, tyre burst and loss of control.
” A total of 17 people were involved which comprises of eight men, seven women and two children .
“Unfortunately, one woman died while 10 people sustained injuries ( two men, six women and two children),” she said.
Okpe explained that the injured victims were taken to Patmag Hospital, Ogere, for medical attention while the deceased was deposited at FOS Morgue, Ipara.
The Ogun Sector Commander, Akinwumi Fasakin, advised motorists to always pay more attention on tyres by checking the expiration date.
He stated that tyre burst on a controlled speed would have been handled better.
