Ogun state Governor, Dapo Abiodun will on Thursday, July 30, 2026, commission the Advanced Technological Incubation and Research Center (ATIRC) Innovation Hub and Nigeria’s fastest dedicated Smart Campus Network at Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), Abeokuta.
Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), in partnership with the Advanced Technological Incubation and Research Center (ATIRC), will officially launch Nigeria’s first 10 Gigabits per second (10Gbps) Smart Campus Network at the institution’s main campus in Abeokuta, the state capital.
According to the organisers, The project makes MAPOLY the first public higher institution in Nigeria to have an enterprise-grade 10Gbps internet network. The new digital infrastructure is designed to improve teaching, learning, research, innovation, and entrepreneurship.
the high-speed network will also provide fast, secure, and reliable internet for thousands of students and staff at the same time. It will also support advanced research in areas such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), robotics, cybersecurity, cloud computing, virtual learning, smart classrooms, digital libraries, and online collaboration with researchers around the world.
The project also includes the ATIRC Innovation Programme, which will provide students, researchers, startups, and entrepreneurs with opportunities to develop, test, and commercialise new ideas and technologies that can solve real-life problems.
Speaking on the project, the Head of Research and Innovation at ATIRC and Chief Executive Officer of Alhaja Theultimate Computer Services (ATCS), Bashirat Aderayo Bamigboye, said the initiative is more than providing faster internet. She explained that it is aimed at creating a platform where education, research, innovation, and business can work together to develop practical solutions and strengthen Nigeria’s digital economy.
She added that the Smart Campus Network will improve digital learning, support scientific research, encourage technology startups, strengthen cybersecurity, and create more opportunities for collaboration between universities, government agencies, and the private sector.
The organisers said the project will also help students gain digital and entrepreneurial skills needed to compete in today’s technology-driven world while promoting Ogun State as a leading centre for education, research, and innovation.
The commissioning ceremony is expected to attract government officials, academics, technology experts, industry leaders, researchers, students, development partners, and members of the media from across the country.
The event is themed “Accelerating Nigeria’s Digital Economy” and is supported by MTN Nigeria, Huawei Technologies, and itel Energy.
