The Presidency has described United States President Donald Trump’s letter to President Bola Tinubu as an endorsement of the administration’s efforts in tackling insecurity and strengthening Nigeria’s international partnerships.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Wednesday, the President’s Special Adviser on Policy Communications, Daniel Bwala, said the letter serves as further evidence that the Federal Government’s policies and security initiatives are gaining global recognition.
His comments followed Trump’s letter to Tinubu, in which the US President commended the Nigerian leader’s “decisive leadership” and commitment to addressing terrorism and other security challenges in the country.
According to Bwala, the correspondence reinforces the progress already being made by the Tinubu administration.
“Facts speak for themselves. The letter is further proof of the progress we are making,” he said.
He, however, stressed that Nigeria’s commitment to improving security and strengthening bilateral relations with the United States does not depend on receiving commendation from foreign leaders.
“Does it mean if there was no letter, we would stop? No. Because we are already engaging and communicating with them,” Bwala stated.
Drawing an analogy, he likened the letter to words of encouragement exchanged in a relationship, saying such gestures provide additional motivation without altering the commitment already in place.
He maintained that the Federal Government would continue pursuing its security and diplomatic objectives while deepening cooperation with international partners.
