The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, psc, FCSS, MNIPR, has reaffirmed the commitment of the Command to strengthening inter-agency collaboration and enhancing border security during a strategic familiarisation visit to the Nigeria Customs Service, Ogun I Area Command, Idiroko.
The Commissioner, accompanied by members of his management team, including the Commanding Officer of the 16 Police Mobile Force Squadron, the Area Commander, Idiroko, and the Commanders of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit and Border Patrol Unit, was received by the Acting Customs Area Controller, Ogun I Area Command, Deputy Controller Oladapo Olukayode Afeni, alongside members of the Customs management team.
During the visit, CP Ojajuni held an interactive meeting with members of the Joint Border Security Committee, which comprises representatives of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Nigeria Forest Guards, Nigeria Agricultural Quarantine Service, Ogun State So-Safe Corps, Port Health Services, and the Permanent Secretary, Inter-Border Security Formation.
The visit was aimed at strengthening existing security frameworks, promoting intelligence sharing, enhancing operational cooperation, and reinforcing coordinated efforts among security agencies responsible for safeguarding Ogun State’s international border corridors.
Addressing the committee, CP Ojajuni expressed satisfaction with the prevailing security situation along the border corridor and commended the leadership of the Ogun I Area Command for its professionalism, patriotism, and unwavering commitment to protecting Nigeria’s territorial integrity.
He noted that the Nigeria Customs Service plays a critical role in national security, economic development, and revenue generation, stressing that its operations along the nation’s borders contribute significantly to the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
The Commissioner also applauded the high level of cooperation among security agencies operating within the border corridor, describing the existing synergy as a model worthy of emulation. He emphasized that sustained collaboration, intelligence sharing, and joint operations remain essential to addressing emerging security challenges.
acknowledging the successes recorded under Operation Kosaye, CP Ojajuni called for even greater operational coordination and reaffirmed the Ogun State Police Command’s unwavering support for all sister security agencies in the collective fight against crime and other security threats.
In his remarks, the Acting Customs Area Controller and Chairman of the Joint Border Security Committee, Deputy Controller Oladapo Olukayode Afeni, described the Commissioner’s visit as “an August visit in July,” noting that it further strengthens the longstanding partnership among security agencies operating within the border corridor.
He also acknowledged the institutional support previously extended by the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Department of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and Supervising DIG for the South-West Geopolitical Zone, DIG Adegoke Mustapha Fayoade, psc, mnim, mni, during his tenure as the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 2.
Deputy Controller Afeni further commended CP Ojajuni for the achievements recorded since assuming office as Commissioner of Police, Ogun State. He reiterated that the statutory responsibilities of the Nigeria Customs Service include border security, law enforcement, and trade facilitation.
He attributed the successes recorded within the border corridor to the unity, professionalism, cooperation, and mutual trust shared among security agencies under the Joint Border Security Committee.
