The Delta State Government has approved the reconstruction of the Otu-Jeremi/Udu Road at a cost of N22.69 billion, in a move aimed at improving transportation, enhancing connectivity, and stimulating economic growth across parts of the state.
The approval was granted on Tuesday during the 14th meeting of the Delta State Tenders Board for 2026, held at the Conference Hall of the Office of the Deputy Governor, Government House, Asaba.
The project entails the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the Otu-Jeremi/Udu Road, extending from the Warri–Port Harcourt Expressway at ECN Junction to the DSC Expressway at Udu Road Junction, with an additional spur connecting Otor-Udu.
According to the state government, the project covers communities in Ughelli South and Udu Local Government Areas and will be executed by the Ministry of Works (Highways and Urban Roads).
Speaking after the meeting, the Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), Izeze Reuben, said the approval reflects the government’s continued investment in critical infrastructure to improve the state’s road network.
He noted that the reconstruction would enhance connectivity between communities, ease the movement of people and goods, and promote commercial and economic activities along the corridor.
Reuben added that the project is in line with Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s MORE Agenda, which prioritises the provision of durable infrastructure to improve the quality of life for residents.
He expressed optimism that upon completion, the road would reduce travel time, improve transportation, and contribute significantly to the socio-economic development of the benefiting communities.
