The Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) in charge of the South-West and Information and Communication Technology (ICT), DIG Fayoade Mustapha Adegoke, has called for stronger collaboration among security agencies, government, traditional institutions and members of the public to improve security in Ogun State.
DIG Fayoade made the call during a strategic working visit to Ogun State, undertaken on the directive of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, to strengthen community policing, improve security operations and promote technology-driven policing across the South-West.
He was accompanied by the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 2, AIG Olohundare Jimoh Moshood, and was received at the Ogun State Police Command Headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta, by the Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, and members of the command’s management team.
As part of the visit, the DIG met with traditional rulers, community and religious leaders, labour and transport unions, youth groups, the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), and representatives of various security agencies.
Speaking at the stakeholders’ meeting held at the POWA Hall, DIG Fayoade described security as a shared responsibility. He urged community leaders to continue providing the police with timely and useful information while encouraging Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers to maintain close relationships with the communities they serve.
The DIG also held an interactive session with officers and men of the Ogun State Police Command. He commended them for their dedication and professionalism and urged them to remain disciplined, uphold human rights, maintain integrity and avoid all forms of corruption.
During the visit, DIG Fayoade paid a courtesy call on the Ogun State Government, where he was received by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr Tokunbo Talabi, who represented Governor Dapo Abiodun. He appreciated the state government’s support for the Nigeria Police Force, while the government reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with the police to ensure peace and security.
The police chief also visited the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, where he praised the traditional institution for supporting security efforts. He stressed the important role of traditional rulers in intelligence gathering, conflict resolution and community policing.
In his capacity as the DIG in charge of ICT, he also visited the Police College of Information and Technology, Kobape, Abeokuta. He commended the institution for training police personnel in modern technology and encouraged continuous innovation to support the digital transformation of the Nigeria Police Force.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, thanked DIG Fayoade and AIG Moshood for the visit and their strategic guidance. He assured them that the Ogun State Police Command would continue to uphold professionalism, discipline, accountability and respect for human rights while strengthening collaboration with stakeholders to protect lives and property across the state.
The Ogun State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to intelligence-led and technology-driven policing and urged residents to continue supporting the police by providing credible and timely information to enhance public safety.
