The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a middle-aged man, Tochukwu Nwora, for allegedly defiling and impregnating a 15-year-old girl in Achalla, Awka North Local Government Area of the state.
The arrest was confirmed on Friday in a statement by the command’s spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga. He said the suspect was picked up during a raid targeting youths suspected of using crystal methamphetamine, locally called “Mkpuru Mmiri”.
According to Ikenga, operatives rescued the pregnant teenager during the operation after catching Nwora in a compromising situation with the minor. The girl was immediately taken into protective custody.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim had allegedly been repeatedly defiled by several adult males at different times in Nando, Nteje and Achalla communities. Police said the suspects exploited her vulnerable condition by giving her small amounts of money.
The Commissioner of Police in Anambra, Ikioye Orutugu, has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a comprehensive probe. He ordered investigators to determine if the girl’s parent or guardian is culpable.
Ikenga said the 15-year-old was taken to the Police Hospital in Awka for medical examination and other necessary procedures. Doctors are expected to provide care and documentation to support prosecution.
The police spokesman condemned all forms of child abuse, exploitation and violence against minors. He reassured the public of the command’s commitment to protecting vulnerable persons and ensuring justice for victims.
Nwora is currently assisting police with information that could lead to the arrest of other men allegedly involved in defiling the teenager. Authorities said further developments will be communicated as investigations progress.
The command warned that it will not tolerate crimes against children and urged residents to report suspicious activities. It reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on sexual violence and drug-related offences in the state.
