The Defence Headquarters has paid a condolence visit to Katsina State following the death of retired Major General Rabe Abubakar, who was abducted and later died in captivity. A delegation led by the Chief of Administration (Army), Major General IM Abdullahi, delivered the message of the Chief of Defence Staff, General OO Oluyede, to the bereaved family and the state government.
At the family residence in Katsina, Major General Abdullahi described the late Abubakar as a dedicated and patriotic officer who served the nation with distinction in various capacities throughout his military career. He noted that the former Director of Defence Information made significant contributions to the growth of the Nigerian Army and the country’s security architecture.
“Major General Abubakar served the Nigerian Army and the nation meritoriously for over three decades. His years of dedicated service and sacrifice will not be forgotten, and his legacy will continue to inspire officers and soldiers of the Armed Forces of Nigeria,” Abdullahi stated.
The Chief of Administration assured the family that the Armed Forces and other security agencies would spare no effort in ensuring that those responsible for the general’s death are brought to justice. He also pledged the military’s continued support to the family during the period of mourning.
As a mark of honour, Major General Abdullahi presented a National Flag to the family in recognition of the deceased officer’s service and sacrifice. The gesture was received with appreciation by family members and community leaders present.
Responding on behalf of the family, Alhaji Dikko Mu’azu Ruma, the Gado da Masun Katsina, thanked the Chief of Defence Staff and the Armed Forces for standing by the family during the difficult period. He acknowledged that death is inevitable and prayed for the peaceful repose of the late general’s soul.
Earlier, the DHQ delegation visited the Katsina State Government House, where they were received by Deputy Governor Mallam Faruk Lawal Jobe on behalf of Governor Dikko Umaru Radda. Abdullahi conveyed the CDS’s condolences to the governor, the government and the people of Katsina over the loss of one of the state’s distinguished sons.
Deputy Governor Jobe described Abubakar’s demise as a painful loss not only to Katsina but to the nation at large. He said the late general’s commitment to national service and security would remain a source of inspiration to future generations.
The Defence Headquarters had earlier on Saturday mourned the death of the former DDI, vowing to intensify operations against criminal elements. The latest visit underscores the military’s commitment to honouring its fallen officers while pursuing those behind the killing.
