The Ogun State Government has rewarded its 10 most active users of the OgunLearn digital platform with tablets, in a move aimed at encouraging technology-driven learning across public schools.
The presentation took place in Abeokuta on Tuesday, with the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, handing over the devices to winners of the OgunLearn competition.
Arigbabu said Ogun’s reputation as Nigeria’s education capital is sustained through bold reforms and digital tools. He noted that other states are now looking to the Ogun model after initial doubts about the platform.
He linked the state’s progress to its use of data for planning. According to him, having records of learners, teachers, facilities, and resources allows for targeted interventions and more efficient management of the education sector.
The commissioner described OgunLearn as an AI-powered system built for Nigerian schools. He said the content follows the national curriculum and schemes of work developed by Ogun teachers, making it relatable to students’ local context.
OgunLearn is part of a larger digital transformation agenda that includes the Digital Platform for Education Administration and Ogun Scholar. Arigbabu said the state’s education database has streamlined the processing of bursaries, scholarships, and other support.
He added that the platform helps authorities track teacher deployment, retirement plans, infrastructure needs, and student movement. It has also eased teachers’ workload by replacing lengthy handwritten lesson notes with digital teaching and assessment tools.
The state is working toward fully digital classrooms where laptops, tablets, and mobile devices drive teaching and learning. To sustain the momentum, the government will continue to reward top users and grow the network of OgunLearn ambassadors.
Arigbabu said the number of ambassadors has risen from 11 to about 110, and the goal is to have all teachers become advocates of digital learning. Regular training for teachers, education officers, and administrators is being organized to support the shift.
Ogun State Teaching Service Commission Chairman Abiodun Sanyaolu praised teachers for embracing the AI initiative and promised continued support for programmes that boost teachers’ development.
NUT state vice-chairman Adenaike Owolabi, representing Noah Sewakanu, also commended Governor Abiodun for making teaching more convenient through technology.
