The Ogun State Police Command has dismissed reports linking a violent attack at a private dredging site in Magbon Etido, Mowe, to banditry, describing the incident as an isolated criminal act under active investigation.
According to a press release signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi, the attack resulted in the death of a soldier who was on security duty at the site, while another soldier sustained injuries and is receiving treatment.
The Command said the incident occurred at the dredging site in Magbon Etido and quickly drew the attention of security agencies following an initial report of gunfire and casualties in the area.
In response, Police operatives, in collaboration with the Military, mobilized swiftly to the location and launched coordinated operations aimed at apprehending those responsible for the attack.
Preliminary findings from the ongoing investigation, the Command stated, do not indicate any connection between the Mowe incident and banditry activities elsewhere in Ogun State.
DSP Babaseyi noted that investigations and tactical operations remain ongoing as security agencies work to identify, track, and arrest the perpetrators behind the assault.
The Police Command assured residents that the situation is under control and that additional security presence has been deployed to Magbon Etido and surrounding communities to prevent further attacks.
“Security presence has been reinforced, and there is no cause for alarm,” the statement read, urging members of the public to go about their lawful activities without fear.
The Command also called on residents to provide credible information that could assist in the investigation, reiterating its commitment to maintaining law and order and bringing those responsible to justice.
