Yoruba Nation activist Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has threatened to release the names of politicians he says are behind the abduction of students in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
Igboho made the threat on Wednesday while speaking to the new executive members of the National Association of Nigerian Students, led by Akinteye Bàbàtunde, at his residence in the Soka area of Ibadan. The encounter was captured in a video trending on Wisdom TV.
He claimed to have personally volunteered to dislodge the bandits but said the Oyo State Government refused. Igboho also stated that he never demanded money from the Seyi Makinde-led administration to rescue the 47 abductees.
“If I am permitted to burst into the hideouts, they will flee. They are neither gnomes nor mannequins; they are humans, so they can be dislodged. I know the politicians behind them, and if they do not stop perpetrating their evil acts, I will mention them all,” Igboho said.
He alleged that the politicians were providing the attackers with ammunition and money. According to him, the same strategy used against former President Goodluck Jonathan is now being deployed to make the country ungovernable for President Bola Tinubu.
Igboho said the Oyo government later informed him that the kidnappers had warned that any forced rescue attempt would result in the children being killed. He argued that if authorities were serious, they should allow him and his team to chase the attackers out of the forests.
He further maintained that after receiving federal approval for his security network, “Iru Ekun”, the Oyo State Government barred him from operating and warned that any attempt to rescue the children could lead to their deaths.
Igboho also questioned why efforts were being made to undermine Tinubu’s administration. “Despite how bad Buhari’s administration is, he completed his tenure. Why are they trying to stop a Yoruba man, Tinubu, from completing his?” he asked.
The activist’s remarks come after at least 45 pupils were reportedly abducted on May 15 during attacks on three schools in Oriire LGA.
One of the abducted teachers, Michael Oyedokun, was later killed by the attackers in a video released on Telegram. Security agencies have since surrounded possible escape routes near the Old Oyo National Park axis.
