Operatives of the Obantoko Division of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested two suspected ‘one-chance’ robbers linked to a series of violent robberies in Obantoko and neighbouring areas. The suspects were apprehended on 28 May 2026 following a distress call from victims and members of the public.
The arrest came after a female commuter and her two sisters raised the alarm that they had been robbed and abandoned by the occupants of a Nissan Micra taxi they boarded in Somorin. The victims said they were travelling to NNPC Kuto when the driver and passengers diverted from the agreed route at the OLG Somorin axis.
According to preliminary investigation, the suspects turned violent mid-journey, forcefully collected the victims’ belongings, and pushed them out of the vehicle. The complainant later discovered her iPhone 12 Pro was missing and immediately alerted residents, who raised a distress call to the police.
Detectives from Obantoko Division, working with vigilant members of the public, quickly mobilised to the scene. Their swift response led to the arrest of two suspects identified as Odunuga Kehinde and Olajide Rasak. The operational vehicle used for the robbery escaped before police arrived.
Police said the timely intervention of officers prevented an attempted mob action by agitated residents who had gathered at the scene. The command warned against jungle justice and urged citizens to allow due process to run its course.
During preliminary interrogation, the suspects reportedly confessed to their involvement in the robbery. Officers recovered a stolen iPhone 12 Pro and several other mobile phones suspected to have been taken from previous victims.
The recovered iPhone 12 Pro has since been released to its owner on bond, while the other phones are being documented as evidence. Police said efforts are ongoing to trace and return additional recovered phones to their rightful owners.
Odunuga Kehinde and Olajide Rasak remain in police custody as investigation continues. The command said they will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations, while a manhunt is underway for the fleeing driver and other accomplices.
The Ogun State Police Command commended members of the public for their cooperation and vigilance, and reiterated its commitment to tackling ‘one-chance’ operations and other violent crimes across the state.
