The Delta State Police Command has rescued a woman abducted along the Eko-Amukpe Road in Sapele, following a gun duel between security operatives and suspected kidnappers.
The command’s spokesperson, Bright Edafe, said in a statement that the Sapele Police Division received a distress call after the woman was abducted while attempting to drive into her compound.
According to him, the suspects shot into the air to scare residents before taking the victim into a nearby bush. Police surveillance teams, supported by local vigilantes, immediately launched a search operation and pursued the kidnappers into the bush.
Edafe said the search continued throughout the night and into the following morning, with sustained pressure from the security operatives eventually forcing the kidnappers to abandon the victim and flee into the forest.
The woman was subsequently rescued unhurt by the joint patrol team and reunited with her family, while the operatives continued their pursuit of the fleeing suspects.
In a separate operation, the Delta State Police Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit raided identified black spots in Abraka following credible intelligence.
The operation led to the arrest of eight suspects and the recovery of three locally made pistols, Tramadol and other suspected illicit drugs.
The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Samuel Erale, commended the operatives and local vigilantes for their efforts, assuring residents that the command would sustain intelligence-led operations and decisive action against kidnappers and other criminal elements in the state.
