The Jigawa State Police Command has launched an investigation after the body of an unidentified man was discovered along the Maigatari-Gumel road in Maigatari Local Government Area of the state.
The victim’s body was reportedly found on Saturday without the head, raising concerns among residents over the circumstances surrounding the killing.
A resident who spoke with DAILY POST said the corpse had been abandoned by the roadside without identification documents or other belongings that could assist in establishing the victim’s identity.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Lawan Shiisu Adam, said the command received information about an unidentified corpse along the road and immediately deployed personnel to the scene.
According to him, officers who arrived at the location discovered that the deceased had been beheaded.
He explained that the body was already in an advanced stage of decomposition and was subsequently taken to a nearby village, where funeral prayers were conducted before it was buried.
The police spokesman, however, disclosed that the severed head was later recovered from a container within the vicinity of where the body was found.
Shiisu said detectives had commenced investigations to establish the identity of the deceased and determine the circumstances that led to his death.
He added that the police were working to uncover those responsible for the killing and bring them to justice.
The command has not confirmed reports by some residents suggesting that the incident may be connected to ritual activities, stressing that investigations are still ongoing.
