The Osun State Police Command has warned that individuals or groups planning to forcibly occupy Local Government Areas (LGAs) in the state will face arrest and prosecution.
The warning followed reports received by the Commissioner of Police (Election), Samuel Etaifo Erale, about alleged plans by some persons to take control of certain local government premises while the matter remains before the court.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, the command said no individual, political group or association has the right to resort to self-help or use force to take over public institutions during an ongoing judicial process.
The police urged all parties involved in the dispute to remain calm and allow the courts to determine the matter according to the law.
The command warned that any attempt to forcibly occupy or disrupt the operations of local government facilities would be regarded as a serious breach of the peace.
It added that anyone found engaging in such acts would be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
The police further appealed to parents, traditional and community leaders, political actors and youth leaders to caution their supporters against actions that could threaten the peace and security of Osun State.
