The Ogun State Police Command has arrested two suspected members of a “one-chance” robbery syndicate allegedly operating within the Abeokuta metropolis.
The suspects, identified as Bidemi Tijani, 29, and Olajide Rasaq, 42, were arrested on August 15, 2026, by operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) following actionable intelligence.
The command said the suspects were sighted in a taxi heading towards the Ita-Oshin area of Abeokuta. According to the police, the suspects allegedly disguised themselves as commercial taxi operators to dispossess unsuspecting passengers of their mobile phones, cash and other valuables.
Acting on the intelligence, VCRU operatives reportedly pursued the vehicle in a high-speed chase towards Ita-Oshin before intercepting it and arresting the two suspects.
The police said the suspects, during interrogation and while making statements under caution, allegedly confessed to being active members of the syndicate. The command, however, said efforts were ongoing to apprehend other fleeing members, establish the full extent of the syndicate’s activities and recover relevant exhibits.
Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, Bode Ojajuni, commended the VCRU operatives for their swift response, vigilance and professionalism.
Ojajuni reiterated the command’s commitment to tackling criminal activities across the state, warning that perpetrators of crime would find no safe haven in Ogun.
He also urged residents and commuters to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious persons or criminal activities to the police.
