About 15 people are feared dead after a vehicle burst into flames along the Enagi–Costain Duma Sharp Corner Road in Mokwa Local Government Area of Niger State.
The incident reportedly occurred in the early hours of Saturday, August 8, 2026, with the occupants said to have been trapped inside the vehicle as the fire spread.
An eyewitness, Ahmed Ndagana, who confirmed the incident, said the number of victims was estimated at 15.
According to him, the victims were reportedly buried in a mass grave in line with Islamic rites.
However, the identities of the victims, details of the vehicle and the exact circumstances that led to the fire remained unclear as of the time of filing this report.
The cause of the inferno was also yet to be established.
Ndagana advised motorists travelling along the route to exercise caution, particularly around the sharp bend, which he said could pose additional risks during the rainy season.
Efforts to obtain official confirmation from the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, in Niger State were unsuccessful.
Calls and a message sent to the Sector Commander, CC Aishat Saadu, seeking clarification on the incident had not been answered as of press time.
The reported death toll therefore remained unconfirmed by relevant authorities, pending further investigation and official statements.
