The Federal Government has commenced the processing of outstanding promotion arrears for public servants, assuring workers that the pending wage award will be paid before the middle of August.
The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele, gave the assurance during a meeting with the leadership of the Joint Public Service Negotiating Council, saying the government remained committed to implementing all agreements reached with workers.
According to the minister, promotion arrears, including Batch 7, which was previously omitted, are being processed alongside Batch 9 as part of efforts to clear outstanding obligations to public servants.
He also disclosed that the necessary release for the outstanding wage award was being finalised, expressing confidence that eligible workers would begin receiving payment before the middle of the month.
Oyedele added that work was ongoing on the payment of peculiar allowances and other pending welfare-related issues affecting federal workers.
He stressed that the Federal Government remains committed to fulfilling its promises through continuous dialogue and prompt implementation of agreements to sustain industrial harmony in the public service.
The leadership of the Joint Public Service Negotiating Council welcomed the assurances and urged the government to expedite the implementation of all outstanding agreements to improve workers’ welfare.
