The Zamfara State Police Command has rescued four kidnapped commuters after operatives engaged suspected bandits in a gun battle along the Mafara–Anka Road, forcing the attackers to flee into the forest.
Yazid Abubakar, the Police Public Relations Officer, said officers of the Violence Crime Response Unit launched the operation after receiving credible intelligence that armed bandits had abducted commuters near Mai-Kwanugga Village.
According to him, the operatives confronted the kidnappers in a fierce exchange of gunfire, compelling them to abandon their captives and escape into the forest with suspected gunshot wounds.
The four rescued victims, all natives of Anka Local Government Area, were safely reunited with their families after the operation.
Abubakar said the Command remains committed to sustained anti-banditry operations across the state and appealed to residents to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information to aid efforts to combat criminal activities.
