The Osun State Police Command has released Teslim Igbalaye, the Secretary to the Osun State Government (SSG), from custody but says investigations into the alleged vote-buying case involving him and five other suspects are still ongoing.
The command’s spokesperson, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, confirmed the development on Thursday, stating that although Igbalaye had regained his freedom, the investigation had not been concluded.
“I can only tell you that the SSG, Mr Teslim Igbalaye, has been released this afternoon, and the investigation is still ongoing,” Ojelabi said.
Igbalaye was earlier arrested alongside five other suspects over alleged vote-buying-related offences after police reportedly recovered Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), cash and a voters’ register from his residence.
The police identified the other suspects as Abiodun Arowomole, popularly known as “Ashipa”, who is on the command’s watch list as a wanted murder suspect, as well as Taiwo Akande, Lukman Adeyemo, Muftau Olaoye and Musiliu Aderemi.
The command reiterated that investigations into the alleged offences are continuing.
