Four suspected kidnappers have been killed by troops of Operation SAVANNAH SHIELD during a military ambush in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State.
According to a report by counter-insurgency and security analyst Zagazola Makama, the operation was conducted at about 4:00 a.m. on July 22 by troops of Sector 1 deployed at the Forward Operating Base (FOB), Kaiama.
The troops reportedly acted on credible intelligence and laid an ambush at a known crossing point along the Jonloji Village riverine axis, where the armed suspects were expected to pass.
A gun battle ensued after the suspects encountered the troops, resulting in the death of four suspected kidnappers.
During the operation, the troops also rescued an abducted victim and recovered a pump-action shotgun, four motorcycles and ₦64,000 believed to be linked to the criminal gang.
The rescued victim was evacuated to Kaiama General Hospital for treatment.
The operation forms part of the ongoing Operation SAVANNAH SHIELD, a military offensive targeting kidnapping syndicates and other criminal elements operating in Kwara State and neighbouring states.
Security forces have sustained offensive operations across the region as part of efforts to dismantle criminal networks, improve security and protect lives and property.
