The Kano State Government has recruited 8,588 teachers in a major effort to strengthen the education sector and address manpower shortages in public schools.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf presented appointment letters to the beneficiaries at a ceremony held at the Indoor Sports Hall of the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano. The newly appointed teachers comprise 4,900 recruits for primary and secondary schools and 3,688 ABBA Gida-Gida Better Education Service Delivery for All (BESDA) teachers.
Speaking at the event, the governor urged the teachers to uphold professionalism, integrity and dedication in the discharge of their duties, stressing that they have been entrusted with shaping the future of the state’s children.
Yusuf also commended teachers, education stakeholders and development partners for supporting efforts to improve education across the state.
Also speaking, the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, described teachers as the backbone of national development, noting that quality education depends on competent and committed educators. He praised the Kano State Government for prioritising education through sustained investments in infrastructure, teacher recruitment and other reforms.
Alausa urged the newly recruited teachers to justify the confidence reposed in them by serving with discipline, commitment and excellence, adding that their dedication would help produce future leaders capable of driving Nigeria’s economic and social development.
The Commissioner for Education, Gwani Ali Haruna Makoda, reaffirmed the state’s commitment to ongoing education reforms, while the Executive Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Malam Yusuf Kabir, called on communities, development partners and philanthropists to support government efforts in strengthening the education sector.
The event concluded with the presentation of appointment letters to the 8,588 teachers, alongside cultural performances by school pupils and other entertainment activities.
